History was made in Normandy this weekend as Festyland officially launched Valkyrie, its spectacular new roller coaster, on Saturday, April 4, 2026.
Located near Caen in France, Festyland is stepping into the realm of Norse mythology for its most ambitious project to date.
Valkyrie is a bespoke 'Family Boomerang Coaster' from the world-renowned manufacturer Vekoma, representing a major €4 million investment for the park.
A Mythical Journey Between Earth and Sky
Inspired by the legendary warrior maidens of the North, Valkyrie is set to be the centerpiece of the park’s Viking-themed area. The experience begins long before you board; the queue and station designed by Morgan Fix Creative will immerse guests in an atmospheric world of rolling mists, rumbling thunder, and glowing runes.
Once on board, 'Guardians of the Legend' will be propelled through a course that blends storytelling with modern thrills.
Valkyrie: Key Stats & Experience
As a 'Boomerang' style coaster, riders experience the entire track twice, once facing forward and once in reverse.

- Track Length: 460 meters (total travel)
- Max Height: 27 meters
- Top Speed: Over 65 km/h
- Capacity: 20 passengers per train

A Project Rooted in the Region
What sets Valkyrie apart is its deep connection to the local area. More than 50 local professionals (including engineers, carpenters, and artists) worked for 18 months to bring the legend to life.
The station itself is a feat of traditional craftsmanship, built using 34 tons of regional Douglas fir and ancient 'mortise and tenon' framing techniques. Even the raw materials are local, with 780 m³ of concrete sourced directly from local cement plants.
The sensory experience is completed by a 45-minute original soundtrack composed by Caen-based artist Ashel. Inspired by the epic tones of God of War, the score blends powerful percussion with ethereal vocals to accompany riders from the queue back to the station.
A Season of Celebration
The opening of Valkyrie kicks off a packed 2026 season at Festyland. Following this weekend's launch, the park will host the Spring Festival (April 11–26), featuring floral displays and cultural performances. Other upcoming highlights include:
- The Vikings Land (May 23–25): Historical re-enactments and battles.
- Festy’Val Mascottes (June 14): A celebration of the park's characters.
- Spectacular Summer (from July 11): Daily entertainment and marching bands.
