Toverland has officially announced the retirement of one of its most beloved family attractions. Maximus’ Blitz Bahn, the custom-themed bobsleigh ride that has anchored the Wunderwald area for over a decade, will close its gates this May to make way for a cutting-edge successor: the Swinging Bobsled.
In an exciting collaboration with Limburg-based ETF Ride Systems, Toverland is developing a ride concept that promises to retain the interactive charm of the original while introducing a more dynamic, coaster-like experience.
Out With the Old, In With the Swing
After 12 years of high-speed service, the current bobsleigh hardware has reached the end of its lifespan. However, Toverland is keen to keep the ride's spirit alive.
This new attraction will depart from the traditional bobsleigh chute in favour of a conventional roller coaster track. While the layout and the protective canopy will remain the same, ensuring the ride stays weather-proof, the sensation for guests will be entirely new.
Key upgrades include:
- Banked Corners: The track will now tilt inward, creating a smoother but more intense ride through the bends.
- Swinging Action: True to its name, the new vehicles will swing outward during turns, with the intensity of the swing dictated by the bobsled's speed.
- Increased Capacity: Larger two-person vehicles (inline seating) will help reduce the infamously long queues associated with the current ride.
"Rodeling has always been an important part of Toverland," says Roy Janssen, Senior Manager of Engineering and Projects. "The new concept allows the track to tilt inward on bends, making the ride both smoother and more intense."
Interaction Remains Key
Fans of the original need not worry about losing their favourite feature: manual speed control. Riders will still be equipped with levers to accelerate or decelerate, though Toverland has confirmed that a minimum speed will be enforced to ensure a more efficient flow of traffic through the course.
The new attraction will remain part of the Wunderwald indoor area, continuing the story of the eccentric inventor Maximus Müller. The new vehicles are set to feature a highly detailed steampunk aesthetic, though the final name of the attraction is currently being kept under wraps.
Important Date for Your Diary
If you want to catch one last lap on the original Blitz Bahn, the farewell event on May 17th promises a festive atmosphere with Maximus Müller himself in attendance. Construction is then expected to begin immediately after closure to meet the ambitious winter 2026/27 opening target.
