Futuroscope has once again pushed the boundaries of immersive storytelling and ride technology with Mission Bermudes, the spectacular new water attraction officially opening June 28, 2025.
This ambitious ride marks the grand finale of the park’s €300 million Vision 2025 transformation—and what a finale it is!
We were invited to attend the official inauguration of the new attraction, and to experience all the other additions to the resort since our last visit five years ago.

The event began with a ceremony attended by French Minister Delegate for Tourism Nathalie Delattre, Vienne department President Alain Pichon, and Futuroscope CEO Rodolphe Bouin. Representatives from Mack Rides, the German manufacturer behind the attraction’s innovative Rocking Boat ride system, were also present—underscoring the European collaboration behind this world-first attraction. A dramatic ribbon-cutting moment, complete with music, smoke effects, fireworks and pyrotechnics, set the tone for what was to come.

Set on a completely redeveloped 1.38-hectare site (formerly the Jardin des Énergies), Mission Bermudes is located near the park’s entrance in a lush, tropical landscape. The queue weaves guests through a research exploration base camp set in the mysterious Bermuda Triangle; over bridges, along misty jungle walkways and past expedition vehicles—supplied by French company 'buggy BOOXT'. The theming makes for a deeply immersive prelude to the adventure.
The storyline follows a search-and-rescue mission investigating the unexplained disappearance of an earlier expedition. Subtle narrative touches appear throughout, although international guests may miss some of the plot—while the queue features story-driven screens and the boats use onboard audio, all the narration is in French, with no English subtitles or translations currently provided.

The ride itself lasts just over 4 minutes and blends multiple genres into a single, high-concept thrill: part water ride, part dark ride, and part coaster. Guests board 10-person boats and are immediately thrust into a dynamic adventure. Unlike all traditional water coasters, the Rocking Boat system enables multidirectional propulsion, forward and backward parts, and dramatic rocking that simulates unpredictable movement.
The standout section is undoubtedly the rapids—powered by an incredible 8,000 litres of water per second, they surge you through dense jungle environments with exhilarating speed and motion. Riders, especially those in the front and rear rows, are likely to get soaked.
A vertical rotating lift leads to the climactic moment: a 16-meter plunge through a “space-time portal”—a visual metaphor replacing what was once planned as a volcano-themed finale. While this exposed tower and modest indoor lead-up might feel underwhelming compared to the original dark ride plans, the final drop still delivers a rather satisfying splashdown at 60 km/h.

The experience is impressively detailed, with over 7,000 m² of immersive decor, 4,500 plants and trees, and artificial rocks created by Petro Art giving the environment depth and realism. Sustainability was clearly considered too, with two filtering wetlands purifying over 5,000 m³ of water via phytopurification.
Beyond the attraction itself, Mission Bermudes is supported by the adjacent Bermuda Bar & Food outlet—which serves up exotic Cuban eats like bocadillos, salads, and burgers, while a fully stocked gift shop offers exclusive merchandise. On-ride photos are also available at the exit.

With a capacity of 1,000 riders per hour when all nine boats are in use, Mission Bermudes should eat through the queues. It also strikes a solid balance between thrills and accessibility, welcoming families with a minimum height requirement of just 1.05 meters.
Mission Bermudes is a thrilling, genre-blending ride that stands as one of Futuroscope’s most daring and original creations yet. It may not fully match the potential of its early concept art in terms of dark ride elements, but it makes up for that with fluid ride dynamics, gorgeous theming, and groundbreaking ride technology. As the world’s first Rocking Boat installation, it will undoubtedly be a must-ride for any theme park enthusiast—and it's a fitting crown jewel for Futuroscope’s Vision 2025.
