Efteling's new Grand Hotel recently opened its doors, a crowning moment for the Netherlands’ beloved fairytale theme park.

For the first time in its long history, guests can stay within the park grounds in a luxurious seven-storey 140 room residence, that perfectly captures the magic, storytelling, and refinement that define the 'World of Efteling'.

We were invited to experience this addition to the resort's accommodation options, and what awaited us was an enchanting blend of old-world elegance, contemporary comfort, and fairytale imagination — all in the heart of the park itself.

Arrival and First Impressions

Our two-night stay began with an efficient arrival. Having checked in digitally via the Efteling app, our room number and a digital key were already waiting for us, meaning we could head straight to our suite upon arrival. The app-based key system is a clever and convenient solution, especially given the hotel’s location inside the park — though it does mean keeping your phone charged is essential!

The exterior of the Efteling Grand Hotel is immediately impressive, its grand façade glowing beautifully when illuminated at night. Inside, the lobby continues this theme of understated luxury: spacious, elegant, and immaculately clean. The option for valet parking adds to the sense of arrival at a true grand hotel.

When we arrived a little late in the evening, the hotel felt tranquil and almost serene — we wondered for a moment whether we might be the only guests. But by morning, the lively breakfast service revealed a very full house.

Our Suite: Comfort with a Magical View

We stayed in one of the hotel’s luxurious suites, featuring spectacular floor-to-ceiling windows that framed our view of The House of the Five Senses, Efteling’s iconic entrance building. Watching the park awaken from our window each morning was a joy.

The room itself was stylish and spacious, with a clean, modern design. While we personally found the decor a little plain — the panelled walls left some space for future storytelling touches — the craftsmanship and finish were impeccable.

Each suite includes thoughtful details that make your stay feel uniquely Efteling. We particularly appreciated the personal welcome note and gift, and the beautiful fairytale book containing nine new stories written especially for the hotel. Also, a delightful surprise awaited us in the wardrobe: a tiny illuminated scene that lights up automatically when you pass by — a whimsical and practical night-light in one.

The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and the soundproofing excellent, ensuring a restful night’s sleep despite being right in the middle of the park.

Dining at Brasserie 7

The hotel’s main restaurant, Brasserie 7, turned out to be one of the highlights of our stay. We enjoyed both dinner and our breakfasts here, and on each occasion the service was attentive and the food outstanding.

The dinner menu offers a wide selection of appetizers, main courses, and desserts — including excellent vegetarian options — all reasonably priced for a restaurant of this calibre. Brasserie 7 is built around seven magical ingredients, which the chef uses as a creative surprise in each dish.

Our meal began with a Coquille Salad and French Onion Soup, followed by Crispy Cod and Guinea Fowl as mains. Dessert brought a delightful Sabayon crowned with cotton candy, alongside a coffee served with three magical bonbons. The meal, including a shared bottle of wine, came to €132 for two people, which felt like good value given the quality and atmosphere. Brasserie 7 is a stunningly designed restaurant, bright and elegant with a spacious conservatory and terrace that overlook the heart of Efteling. It actually feels more impressive than the smaller premium restaurant, Mystique, also located within the hotel.

Breakast had a similar flair to it, with cooked-to-order Eggs Royale accompanied by a glass of champagne. Pure indulgence.

Facilities and Amenities

The Efteling Grand Hotel offers a variety of amenities accessible to guests. The Pool & Spa area was a particular highlight for us — spotlessly clean and well maintained, we had it entirely to ourselves during our visit. The pool features an elegant whirlpool and a gentle water fountain that activates periodically, accompanied by subtle changes in lighting — a charming touch.

We also explored Hotel Boutique Sens and the adjoining Arcadeau souvenir shop. It was impressive to see a large range of exclusive hotel-specific merchandise — from plush robes to themed gifts — giving guests the chance to take a piece of the experience home.

One minor limitation is that your outdoor access is restricted after park hours. Only the terrace of Restaurant-Bar Mystique remains open to hotel guests at night; a small garden or courtyard would have made a welcome addition.

Before departing, we also stopped by Café Biscuit, the hotel’s stylish coffee bar. The freshly baked cookies were warm from the oven and absolutely delicious — the perfect farewell treat.

• Half an hour of early park access each morning, with selected rides open exclusively for hotel guests
• Free parking at the hotel parking lot, including valet parking service

Integration with Efteling's Theme Park

Staying inside Efteling truly changes your experience of the park. The hotel sits right at the park’s entrance, with one of the main guest pathways running directly under the building. Each morning, we could just step straight out into the magic, and return easily for a midday rest or to freshen up before dinner.

During our stay we had ample opportunity to enjoy all of the rides, attractions and shows, with highlights being haunted house dark ride Danse Macabre and it's adjacent show Dr. Charlatan's Cabaret Macabre, popular roller coasters Vliegende Hollander and Joris en de Draakand, as well as the thrilling Raveleijn.

For lunch, after exploring the enchanting Sprookjesbos (Fairytale Forest) and enjoying the magical Symbolica, we dined on remarkable pancakes in Polles Keuken. The flavour combinations were sensational! Our first was topped with goats cheese, apple, pecan nuts, honey and arugula. The second had a generous amount of ham, sun dried tomatoes, pesto, pine nuts and spring onions.

At the end of the day, one of the highlights of our stay was watching Aquanura, Efteling’s breathtaking fountain show, from the terrace of Restaurant-Bar Mystique. Sitting back with a drink in hand, while enjoying an unrivalled panoramic view of a production of this scale, was a moment we’ll never forget.

Service at the Efteling Grand Hotel reflects the direct and efficient Dutch approach: polite, professional, and refreshingly straightforward.

There’s a sense of calm refinement throughout the property — more relaxed and elegant than overtly themed, making it appealing to both families and couples.

Overall Impression

The Efteling Grand Hotel blends past and present, tradition and modernity, in a way that feels authentically Efteling. We loved the thoughtful touches — from the branded macarons awaiting us on arrival, to the book of fairytales in our room.

Although Efteling’s Loonsche Land remains a fantastic and more rustic alternative nearby, there’s no denying the thrill of being inside the park itself. The convenience, views, and atmosphere make this hotel something truly special.

Staying in a brand-new hotel is always a treat, and the Efteling Grand Hotel feels like the perfect complement to this world-class theme park. From the beautiful design and exceptional dining to the magical details waiting to be discovered, it’s just got that spirit of Efteling.
