Parque Warner Madrid is one of the most popular theme parks in Europe, with an array of rides and attractions themed to Warner Bros. movies.

The impressive theme park has a whole themed area dedicated to DC Super Heroes, including experiences based on iconic comic-book characters such as Batman and Superman.

With the recent addition of their new roller coaster Batman: Gotham City Escape, and a return of the Aquaman Nighttime Spectacular, we went on an action-packed adventure at the park.

Batman: Gotham City Escape

Last year, Parque Warner Madrid opened new roller coaster Batman: Gotham City Escape.

Set within Gotham City, the new attraction features spectacular theming including a replica Wayne Manor, the residence of billionaire Bruce Wayne, and secretly, Batman.

During the outdoor queue, in the grounds of Wayne Manor, an audio introduction explains that Bruce Wayne has opened his home for guided tours. Visitors wait to be admitted in small groups for their tour.

An excellent pre-show in the library sets the scene for the experience, and as you might expect, things do not go according to plan!

Visitors are evaluated through a secret passage to the Batcave, then shortly after to the Gotham City Transit System to make their escape.

The combination of such detailed theming, lighting, audio and other effects makes the build up really immersive, and by the time you reach the station excitement levels are very high.

It was a delight to watch the stylish coaster trains gliding into the station with the emotional faces of riders returning from their experience, accompanied by applause and cheering. Yes, the ride really is that good!

Gotham City Escape occupies a large area in the park with a length of more than 1,010 metres and a ride duration of 111 seconds.

The Intamin Blitz roller coaster features two LSM launches, a total of 4 inversions and a top speed of up to 65 mph. The ride is really exciting, switching from high speed thrills to moments of slow motion, in a way that we haven't experienced before.

An incredible highly-trimmed 45-metre-tall top hat element makes the ride a unique and innovative attraction in Europe.

After the ride, both on-ride photos and videos are available to purchase, along with a vast selection of Batman, Joker and Harley Quinn merchandise in the Ace Chemical store.

DC Super Heroes World

Batman: Gotham City Escape joins the other roller coasters in the DC Super Heroes World area of the park, Superman: La Atracción de Acero and Shadows of Arkham.

DC Super Heroes World has two sections, Gotham City and Metropolis. The imposing Shadows or Arkham inverted coaster sits amongst the well themed park and buildings of Gotham City. Descending from a height of 105 ft (32 m) and reaching speeds of 50 mph (80 km/h) through 5 inversions, all whilst your legs dangle freely.

On our previous visit, an optional virtual reality experience was available, but sadly this has now been removed. A shame, as it was one of the better implemented VR roller coasters.

The tower ride La Venganza del Enigma offers a powerful vertical launch to 328 ft (100 m) then back down at a speed of 50 mph (80 km/h). The combination of three towers really enhances the ride experience, as you hurtle past other riders going in the opposite direction. If you keep your eyes open, there are wonderful views of the park.

The other attractions in Gotham City are Mr.Freeze Fábrica de Hielo and The Joker Coches de Choque. We enjoyed a brilliant lunch at Gotham City Grill, which was very fast and efficient thanks to the digital ordering screens, and our meals were well-priced and delicious.

Metropolis is anchored by Superman: La Atracción de Acero, accompanied by Lex Luthor Invertatron, and completed by the Daily Planet Restaurant and Metropolis Boutique.

Superman is a gigantic floorless coaster featuring 7 inversions, and from our front row seats the views were just incredible. Seeing the twisted track coming before you and passing right under your feet is quite a thrill. It's unbelievable that there are only two coasters of this type in Europe. With a whopping 3,609 ft (1,100 m) of track and a top speed of 62 mph (100 km/h) this is a brilliant ride.

Superman and Shadows of Arkham are now both 22 years old, and unfortunately they are showing their age. Neither had any screens or audio functioning in their queues or ride stations, eliminating much of the atmosphere. The rides themselves are looking rather faded. It's a shame to see them neglected like this and we would ideally like to see Parque Warner invest in renovating both rides.

Gotham City Stunt Show

In the entertaining Gotham City Stunt Show, Batman faces off against The Joker with the help of Robin. A mixture of fight scenes and aerial acts wow the crowds with motorbike stunts, a quad bike and a Batmobile all making an appearance. It's great to see this kind of entertainment bringing the DC Super Heroes World to life.

Superstars Parade

Every day this colourful procession of floats and characters includes appearances from many DC Comics characters such as Batman, Superman, The Joker and Wonder Woman.

Aquaman Nighttime Spectacular

Between July 1 and 31 August 2024, Parque Warner Madid presents a spectacular show based on the superhero Aquaman.

Aquaman Nighttime Spectacular includes some amazing staging and is the only such show in the world where you can see the famous DC Comics character and member of the Justice League.

The show takes place at the park's lake, within an area of 6,000 m2, providing an extraordinary visual experience between the sky and the water, where live performers equipped with LED suits and pyrotechnic effects fly up to 20 metres high and submerge in the water, taking full advantage of the possibilities offered by the Flyboard.

The choreography, acrobatics, laser lighting, music, fireworks and water screens create a sensational visual impact.

If you're a fan of the DC Super Heroes we thoroughly recommend visiting Parque Warner Madrid. On the day of our visit the queues were very manageable, between 5-25 mins for each ride.

Parque Warner caters well to international visitors, with most announcements also in English, some subtitles on videos, and the option to select a language on touch screen panels. The only obvious omission is that the park's app is only available in Spanish. This is slightly frustrating, as visitors need this to access queue and show times.

Our tickets were provided by Parque Warner Madrid for the purpose of this review. 1-day tickets for Parque Warner start at €46.90 per person, when purchased online.
