To celebrate its 55th anniversary, Italy's Leolandia has unveiled its most significant attraction to date, new family spinning coaster Reversum.

The new ride, which officially opened on 25 April 2026, is not only the first new roller coaster to debut in Italy in ten years, but also a unique experience where passengers cannot predict the direction of the ride.

Reversum is based on the same Mack Rides spinning coaster model and track layout as Sierra Sidewinder at Knott’s Berry Farm (US) and Storm Chaser at Paultons Park (UK).

A Highlight for the Park’s 55th Anniversary

The new ride marks a major milestone for the family-run theme park, located in Capriate San Gervasio near Milan. Giuseppe Ira, President of Leolandia, said that the project represents the fulfilment of a vision established when the park was acquired in 2007: to create a premier theme park dedicated entirely to families.

The opening featured Ginevra Panzeri, a young Formula 4 driver, as the guest of honour for the inaugural ride. Christian von Elverfeldt, CEO of the German manufacturer Mack Rides, also attended to present a commemorative plaque recognising the long-standing cooperation between the two companies.

Technical Innovation and Circus Theming

Manufactured by Mack Rides, Reversum features cars that rotate freely on their own axes. This mechanic ensures that every run is different, as the centrifugal forces and weight distribution of the passengers determine the intensity and direction of the spins. The coaster is designed to bridge the gap between children’s attractions and high-thrill rides, making it accessible to children from a height of 105 centimetres when accompanied, or 130 centimetres on their own.

The ride is three times longer than any other coaster in the park and is supported by 131 concrete foundations reaching depths of five metres. With two trains in operation, the attraction can accommodate up to 1,000 guests per hour.

Thematically, the coaster serves as the centrepiece of the 20,000-square-metre Crazy Circus area. The station and queue are housed beneath a 12-metre-high striped big top tent, while the ride vehicles are styled after historic circus railway carriages. The immersive experience is enhanced by aerial monkey figures and a dedicated shop at the exit offering themed merchandise and on-ride photos.

Part of a 30 Million Euro Investment Strategy

Reversum is the crowning achievement of a three-year development plan, involving an investment of more than 30 million euros between 2023 and 2026. This strategy included 17 million euros for the Crazy Circus zone and 10 million euros for the Dragons and Legends area, which opened in 2024.

The park expects these developments to result in a 10% increase in attendance by the end of the year. The 55th anniversary celebrations will continue throughout the season, featuring a K-pop celebration, and live shows featuring characters such as Bluey and Bingo, culminating in a grand anniversary programme in July.
