A Grand Opening at Hunderfossen has marked the official inauguration of Rally Flåklypa, a brand-new family dark ride.
The attraction was unveiled by park management alongside international and regional press, visitors, and the mayors of Lillehammer and Alvdal. Alvdal holds special significance as the birth village of author Kjell Aukrust and as the original inspiration for the Flåklypa universe.
During the event, the star attraction of both the new dark ride and the recent animated film was revealed: a full-sized, 7-metre long model of the iconic Il Tempo Gigante car. Guests attending the soft opening expressed immense enthusiasm, noting the inclusion of beloved props and familiar elements from the films throughout the preshow and the ride itself.
A Surprising and Immersive Race Experience
The attraction completes a fully themed Flåklypa zone at the park, joining an existing coaster and 4D cinema alongside dedicated retail outlets. Built within an existing building, the new project required an extensive overhaul by construction company Veidekke and the park's technical team, including entirely new wiring, flooring, and reconfigured rooms.
The concept and layout, developed by BoldMove Nation, has maximised the available space and ceiling heights to create a compact yet highly immersive experience that feels significantly larger than its physical footprint.
The journey begins in a fully automated preshow area where characters welcome guests and invite them to support them in the upcoming race. Large roll-up screens paired with specialised lighting reveal the Il Tempo Gigante car, which can also be viewed from an adjacent ice parlour. Guests then walk through the cinema screen into Reodor’s caravan, a space filled with eccentric inventions and props from the movie, before arriving at the boarding station.
The ride vehicles accommodate groups of six and transport them into an "immersive race tunnel". The physical movement of the trackless vehicles is synchronised with media on gigantic screens, recreating a wild race that takes riders from the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, through the Alps, across the deserts of Egypt, and back to Paris for a grand finale victory celebration.
The experience is enhanced by 3D decor and unexpected effects, including an Augmented Reality car reveal and a pitstop scene featuring Reodor repairing a broken vehicle. Each vehicle is equipped with 21 speakers, providing surrounding sound and physical vibrations to elevate the realism of the race. Upon unloading, guests then exit through a heavily themed Paris environment and the ice cream parlour.

Bringing a Beloved Intellectual Property to Life
The ride is based on the animated film released in Norway by Qvisten Animation last Christmas, featuring the characters created by Kjell Aukrust. The story follows the eccentric inventor Reodor Felgen, who has been expelled from the village of Flåklypa. To re-establish his status and prove the potential of his eco-friendly fuel, "Methane Rapido Potente" (made from cow emissions), Reodor, a fearless bird, and a neurotic hedgehog enter the legendary Paris-Dakar rally. They must win the race whilst overcoming sabotage from electric car mogul Ellen Busk.
Hogne Høstmælingen, Park Director at Hunderfossen, commented on the opening:
"We are proud to offer a truly unique attraction that allows families to step into the world of Flåklypa, a universe they have shared across generations. Reodor's creativity inspires children to dream, explore engineering, and build something extraordinary, just like Il Tempo Gigante. The story teaches them to be persistent despite failures or strong opponents, to follow and fulfill their dreams, no matter how big they are. BoldMove and Qvisten have successfully transformed the Flåklypa universe into an immersive experience, building the excitement from the preshow through the race up to the grand finale."
Project Development and Partners
BoldMove Nation served as the overall ride concept and theming developer for the project. The new attraction utilises BoldMove's bespoke Kamino show control system to fully automate the preshow and ride sequences. The company also developed the Rogue Rides trackless vehicles, ensuring smooth trajectories that sync precisely with the onscreen media.
Several specialist partners contributed to the final attraction:
- Qvisten Animation produced the media content shown across the large screens in the preshow and main ride.
- Kabuki managed the theming production, utilising special fabrication and finishing techniques for the 3D decor and wall paintings.
- Rodco manufactured the full-sized replica of the Il Tempo Gigante car.
- Hunderfossen's technical team and local artists sourced authentic props and added the final decorative touches.
Located in the Olympic city of Lillehammer, Hunderfossen is often referred to as the Fairytale Park and it is one of Norway's most popular tourist attractions, featuring more than 60 rides and attractions.
