Puy du Fou España takes its visitors on an epic journey through the history of Spain, with dramatic shows featuring special effects, stunts, extraordinary sets and authentic period villages.
The open-air night-time show El Sueño de Toledo carries its audience across 1,500 years of Spanish history in a 80-minute production on a 5-hectare stage.
On the outskirts of Toledo, an hour from Madrid, Puy du Fou España opened in 2021. We visited the impressive theme park for the first time in 2024, to experience everything that it had to offer, and see how it compared to the original Puy du Fou.
The award-winning Puy du Fou in France has exported its unique theme park concept to Spain and opened this 30-hectare world of history and nature. Visitors to the newer Puy du Fou España are able to relive some of Spain’s best-known legends and greatest moments in history.

Daytime Shows
The four main daytime shows at Puy du Fou España are world-class. Each show lasts around 30 minutes and is performed once or more per day.
- El Misterio de Sorbaces - A forbidden wedding is secretly celebrated between a young Roman girl and a Gothic prince, but King Recaredo finds out about it and comes to sack the village. Expect fierce battles, jousting and lots of fire!
- El Último Cantar - A grand scale 360˚ show, set in the 11th century, that follows the incredible exploits and epic tale of legendary military leader ‘El Cid’, Don Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar. The entire auditorium rotates between the multiple stages during the show.
- A Pluma y Espada - Enjoy a light-hearted swash-buckling adventure in which Spain’s Golden Age poet, Lope de Vega, discovers that all is not as it seems. In this extraordinary theatre, the grand stage floods with water.
- Cetrería de Reyes - Step back in time to the year 939, and gaze skywards when a truce between the Count Fernán González of Castile and the Caliph takes the unusual form of a duel of falcons, and an aerial dance performed by hundreds of birds of prey.
English language translation is available for all four main daytime shows, via an app.

Walkthrough Attractions
In addition to the shows, there are also two walkthrough attractions:
- Allende la Mar Océana - The year is 1492 and it's time to embark on an epic journey with Christopher Columbus. In this massive attraction you'll be taken on an immersive experience, starting in the port of Palos, before boarding a ship and setting sail through an undiscovered sea towards the west.
- De Tal Palo - This outdoor walkthrough consists of a series of monologues, given in Spanish only, so international visitors might be better skipping this one.
Allende la Mar Océana has to be seen to be believed. It's an incredible walkthrough attraction, with huge and detailed sets, live actors and elaborate special effects. It's very much a 'dark ride' without the 'ride'.

Period Villages
In between shows, visitors can take a leisurely stroll through four period villages:
- El Arrabal - A medieval market in front of the Puerta del Sol, in surroundings inspired by the 13th century.
- La Puebla Real - Wander through the narrow streets of this 13th century stone-walled village.
- La Venta de Isidro - Learn about rural life in the Middle Ages in Spain.
- El Askar Andalusí - Explore the colourful surroundings of an authentic Moorish camp.
Compared to those at Puy du Fou in France, these were quite underwhelming, as they seemed to include just a selection of food and drink outlets, many of which were closed. At the original Puy du Fou, you'll find craftspeople and artisans working and demonstrating their skills.
Restaurants and food outlets provide a range of authentic local dishes, alongside more standard options like burgers and fries. None of the menus are available in English and as most of the staff only speak Spanish it can be a little challenging. Some of the restaurants were only available to those with reservations.
Unlike the original Puy du Fou, this one doesn't include any onsite accommodation, and adding this would greatly enhance the appeal of the park.

El Sueño de Toledo
In front of a 5,000 seat grandstand, this historic fresco takes place on a huge 5-hectare stage. We had an incredible view from our reserved seats, and loved every moment of this epic show.
From the reign of Recaredo to the Navas de Tolosa, from the discovery of America to the arrival of the railway; a gigantic canvas thrills and transports spectators through 1,500 years of history represented by 200 actors and spectacular special effects.
Each performance of El Sueño de Toledo features actors, horses and other animals, fireworks and fountains, drones, lasers, lighting effects, 3D projection mapping and a powerful sound system. English language translation is via the app.

While not as big or impressive as the original Puy du Fou in France, this historical theme park in Spain is well worth visiting. The park itself is beautiful and the shows have plenty of jaw-dropping moments that only Puy du Fou can deliver. What they have accomplished in just a few years, versus a few decades, is remarkable.
