The winners of the Diamond ThemePark Awards 2020 have been revealed during an event at Bellewaerde.
Every year, for the past 10 years, Patrick Joossens and Vincent De Vriendt have organised a quest to find the best amusement parks and zoological attractions.
21 award categories had been created for the public to vote on in 2020.
For the 10th anniversary edition, they had focused on parks in Belgium and the Netherlands, although there were categories open to other European parks. The winners included:
Best theme park in Europe
- GOLD: Europa-Park
- SILVER: Phantasialand
- BRONZE: Efteling
Best roller coaster in Europe
- GOLD: Taron (Phantasialand)
- SILVER: Expedition GeForce (Holiday Park)
- BRONZE: Shambhala (PortAventura Park)
Best attraction in Europe
- GOLD: The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror (Walt Disney Studios Park)
- SILVER: Chiapas (Phantasialand)
- BRONZE: Les Vikings (Puy du Fou)
Best new attraction in Europe
- GOLD: Untamed (Walibi Holland)
- SILVER: Fury (Bobbejaanland)
- BRONZE: Popcorn Revenge (Walibi Belgium)
The finalists were selected by the jury, consisting of several fans of both zoos and amusement parks, and online media. Their input, based on objective judgement, accounts for 50% of the final score.
