Duinrell in the Netherlands has begun construction of the brand-new attraction for 2026, Kikker8baan, which replaces its previous family coaster Kikkerachtbaan.
This next-generation ride refreshes a nostalgic classic with a lively motocross-inspired theme and modern coaster design, set to debut at the start of Duinrell’s 91st season in April 2026.
What’s new?
The Kikker8baan (Dutch for “Frog-8-Coaster”) replaces the original Kikkerachtbaan, which entertained visitors for more than 40 years. While it retains the charm and family-friendly appeal of its predecessor, the new coaster introduces several notable updates:
- Motocross theme, with Duinrell mascot Rick the Frog racing through the forest on his motorbike
- Similar layout with a modern twist, recreating the iconic figure-eight style of the original ride while meeting current ride standards
- Raised viewing platform, allowing spectators to watch riders pass by from an elevated mid-course position
Ride experience and specs
While Duinrell has not yet released full technical details, early information suggests the following:
- Manufacturer: Zierer, using its Force model
- Track length: Approximately 362 metres
- Top speed: Around 47 km/h
- Ride type: Family roller coaster with a motocross theme
Like the coaster it replaces, the Kikker8baan is designed to appeal to families and younger guests while still delivering a dynamic and enjoyable ride experience.
When will it be open?
Duinrell plans to open the Kikker8baan at the start of its 2026 season, currently expected in April. The new coaster forms part of a wider programme of additions and improvements planned for the resort in 2026, including updates to accommodation, dining, and park facilities.
Kikker8baan represents both a nostalgic farewell and a welcome upgrade. By replacing a much-loved classic with a more modernised successor rather than removing it entirely, Duinrell hopes that it will be enjoyed equally by new and returning visitors.
