A major transformation is coming to Movieland Park on the shores of Lake Garda, with the resort announcing a new themed area called Bugs Town Studios set to debut in 2026.

The development replaces the park’s former Stone Age themed area, and introduces a new story-driven environment where creativity, technology and immersive storytelling take centre stage.

Newly released concept artwork offers the first detailed look at the colourful world that guests can expect, featuring a mix of new attractions and rethemed rides inspired by a whimsical city where humans and insects coexist.

A Story-Driven Transformation

According to the park’s official backstory, the land is inspired by the experiments of fictional scientist Steam Brown, whose attempt to create a mining machine led to an unexpected transformation. A mysterious explosion released vapours that gave insects extraordinary abilities, allowing them to communicate and collaborate with humans.

Rather than fear, the narrative focuses on cooperation and coexistence, with Bugs Town emerging as a vibrant city that celebrates diversity, innovation and friendship. A monument to Steam Brown is said to stand at the heart of the new land.

New Vision for Movieland’s Future

The transformation reflects a broader strategic direction for the park and its parent company, CanevaWorld Resort. CEO Fabio Amicabile has outlined a vision that blends the park’s history with future-focused attractions designed to enhance storytelling and guest immersion.

While full attraction details have not yet been announced, the newly released artwork suggests a family-friendly 'wild west' area featuring multiple rides, themed structures and interactive elements built around oversized insect characters and their inventive machinery.

What the Artwork Reveals

The concept illustration highlights several key elements expected in Bugs Town Studios:

  • A large central spinning attraction themed to insect flight (one of only two Apollo 14 rides ever built by Schwarzkopf).
  • A retheme of the park's log flume, previously called the Troncosaurus Log Flume
  • A family mine cart roller coaster

The design indicates a shift toward cohesive world-building, aligning Movieland with contemporary European theme park trends that emphasise immersive themed lands over standalone attractions.

Fun fact: the Apollo 14 ride has previously operated at Attractiepark Slagharen, Dreamland Margate, Lightwater Valley and Loudoun Castle.

Looking Ahead to 2026

Bugs Town Studios is positioned as one of the most significant recent investments at Movieland Park and signals continued development at the Lake Garda destination. The project also reinforces the park’s focus on family audiences and narrative-driven experiences.

Further announcements regarding ride and attraction line-up, opening timeline and additional theming details are expected as construction progresses toward the 2026 season.
