Movieland Park, at Italy’s CanevaWorld Resort, has officially opened the doors to its latest major development, Bugs Town.

The new themed land held its grand opening in April, inviting guests into a curious world where the charm of the Old West meets a population of giant insects. The small launch event began with an exclusive preview for press and content creators, offering a first look at the immersive setting before the area officially opened to the general public.

Bugs Town represents a significant investment in original, Italian-made design, furthering the resort's reputation for unique storytelling and family-friendly experiences.

A Miniature Frontier: The World of Bugs Town

The new area is designed to transport visitors into a whimsical version of the Wild West. This insect-led frontier features five distinct attractions, a new live show, two dining outlets, and a retail store.

At the heart of the additions is Driller, a new attraction for the 2026 season. Inspired by giant mining equipment, the ride is one of only two Apollo 14 rides ever built by Schwarzkopf, and is tied to the story of Steam Brown, a central character in the Bugs Town narrative.

Joining Driller is Eldorado Express, a brand-new train adventure where guests board mining carts. The journey takes visitors through tunnels, past railway tracks, and amongst precious minerals, all styled to evoke the atmosphere of the historic gold rush.

In addition to the new rides, several existing attractions have been fully reimagined to fit the new storyline:

  • Casino: Formerly known as Oktopus, this ride has been updated with a saloon-inspired setting. It maintains its popular rotational movement while providing a festive, social atmosphere.
  • Gran Canyon Steamer: Previously Troncosaurus, this water attraction now features mining-themed environments and scenery inspired by the canyons of the Old West.
  • Iron Pick: The historic BC-10 has been transformed with a new identity, incorporating the giant excavation tools and mechanical inventions that define the town’s mining history.

Entertainment and Refreshments

Beyond the new rides, Movieland Park has also introduced a new live stage show titled Once Upon a Time in Bugs Town. The performance features a cast of characters including Dr Lily Brown, JB Grasshopper, a charismatic croupier, and the showgirl Shirley Bee. The production combines music and storytelling to bring the legend of the town to life.

For those looking for a break between adventures, the land offers two new themed eateries. The Saloon serves snacks such as twister fries and golden chicken bites, while the Buffalo Grill offers grilled dishes in a lively western environment. Before departing, guests can visit the General Store, which stocks original gadgets, souvenirs, and sweets.

A Vision for the Future

Fabio Amicabile, CEO of CanevaWorld Resort, expressed pride in the project, stating that the goal with Bugs Town was to create an experience that combines creativity and passion with a stronger Italian identity. He noted that the enthusiastic reception from early visitors confirms the value of the park’s evolving vision.

The opening of Bugs Town marks the official start of the 2026 season at Movieland Park, signalling a new year focused on immersive experiences and family-oriented adventure.
