A new family-focused theme park is set to debut in the Netherlands in 2026 as Van Hoorne Studios transforms the former Familyland site into De Tovertuin, a fully themed resort inspired by the beloved children’s characters Woezel & Pip.
The redevelopment marks a major repositioning of the theme park into what the company describes as a 'total experience' designed specifically for families with young children, primarily up to around 10 years old.
Construction and renovation are currently underway, with the opening planned for March 27, 2026.
A New Concept for the Dutch Theme Park Market
According to project details shared by the park’s new operators, De Tovertuin will introduce a concept that is largely unique within the Netherlands: a fully immersive themed environment built around a single children’s brand, combining attractions, accommodation, and resort-style amenities into one integrated destination.
Van Hoorne Studios is already active in the Dutch leisure sector. The company operates Fien & Teun’s Adventure Farm and Family Resort Molenwaard, both located in Alblasserwaard. These family experiences focus on educational storytelling, live entertainment, and interactive play for younger audiences, all elements expected to shape De Tovertuin’s design philosophy.
What Visitors Can Expect
While full attraction details have not yet been released, the park is expected to feature:
- Gentle rides and play attractions tailored to young children
- Immersive storytelling environments based on Woezel & Pip
- Family-friendly accommodation integrated with the park experience
- Live entertainment and character encounters
- Indoor and outdoor play zones designed for all-weather visits
The emphasis on a cohesive narrative world and overnight stays suggests the project aims to position itself as a short break destination rather than a traditional day visit theme park.
Strategic Repositioning
The transformation of Familyland reflects a broader trend across Europe’s regional parks: moving toward strong intellectual property themes and resort style experiences to differentiate from larger thrill focused destinations.
By targeting younger families, Van Hoorne Studios appears to be building on a model it has already tested successfully with its existing properties.
Opening Timeline
Renovation and redevelopment are scheduled to continue for several more weeks, with De Tovertuin expected to welcome its first guests on March 27, 2026.
