On the 7th May the popular Mystery River water ride at Movie Park Germany will re-open as Excalibur - Secrets of the Dark Forest.
The attraction will be completely re-themed throughout. King Arthur, the Knights of the Round Table, and dark creatures and fairy tale characters will populate the attraction, and the famous sword from this mythical history makes its appearance: Excalibur.
Movie Park Germany has shared a taste of what is to come, including the new storyline and a series of illustrations.
Thorsten Backhaus, Managing Director, says:
"This ride is one of the oldest and most popular in our park, so now we want to do justice to this veteran from our park's history and give it a dignified and fresh upgrade including the new name: Excalibur - Secrets of the Dark Forest."
Visitors will be sent by wizard Merlin on a risky search for the legendary sword Excalibur. This was stolen from the knights table and must be returned to the rightful owner, King Arthur, as soon as possible. The journey is only possible by making numerous dangerous maneuvers through enchanted forests and dark caves.
"Every stage of the attraction has a new theme, but the main ride characteristics will naturally continue to exist."
The renewal of the ride is the next step in the management of quality at the park. After construction of the largest roller coaster in the park's history Star Trek: Operation Enterprise in 2017, Germany's movie studio themed park now focuses on this classic.
"From time to time our older attractions also receive our full attention, especially the attractions that are very popular with our visitors. The attraction is one of the largest and most expensive attractions of its kind in Europe."
Movie Park Germany has worked with IMAscore and IMAmedia to 'conjure' the new music and media content, Leisure Expert Group delivered the creative concept and Tema Design by MK Illumination was responsible for the thematic transformation.
"The attraction opened at the same time as the park in 1996. Some visitors may still remember that it was originally themed on the film 'The NeverEnding Story' but due to the withdrawal of Warner as licensor we had to introduce a new theme in 2005. Mystery River became a realm of dwarfs, trolls and witches. After twelve years a new step comes, which again leads back to the roots of Movie Park."
"The themes of film and television stand for everything that we do in our park. In recent years we have, among other things, brought the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Trek and The Walking Dead to the park. Now Excalibur is bringing a new history to the park that has countless times been the subject of spectacular and exciting film adaptations."
"A few years ago we asked ourselves what theme would suit it well. We chose this theme in the summer of 2017 and we hope to inspire all generations with this classic. One thing will remain unchanged: the risk of getting wet is still high!"
