Liseberg, Sweden’s most visited theme park, has officially inaugurated its latest attraction, Stormvåg.
The brand-new family ride made its debut on 14 May 2026, during the Ascension Day bank holiday, with a celebration rooted in the maritime traditions of the Swedish west coast.
The opening ceremony reflected the ride’s harbour-themed aesthetic, featuring representatives from the Port of Gothenburg.

In a nod to nautical christening rituals, Kristina Karlsson, Port Officer at the Port of Gothenburg, performed the honours of breaking a bottle against the attraction to ensure good fortune, but to maintain the park’s safety standards, the bottle was crafted entirely from sugar. Following the ceremony, Harbour Master Pontus Bengtsson officially launched the first cycle.
A Bridge Between Worlds
Stormvåg, which translates to 'The Storm Wave', is situated between the Fisketuren and Jukebox attractions, occupying the former site of the Kristallsalongen. Liseberg officials describe the ride as a "natural bridge" within the park’s layout, connecting the gentler children’s area, Kaninlandet, with the park’s more high-intensity thrill rides.
The attraction is a Wild Swing XL, manufactured by the German company Art Engineering. While the silhouette may evoke nostalgia for the classic Topspin rides of the past, Stormvåg is specifically engineered as a multi-generational experience. The gondola holds 24 guests at a time and provides a thrilling swinging sensation without ever going fully upside down.
Highly Anticipated Debut
Public interest in the new addition was significant, with over 1,200 people entering a competition to be amongst the first to board. The premiere ride demonstrated the attraction's wide appeal, with passengers ranging in age from 8 to 74 years old.
"We are so happy that Stormvåg has finally arrived at Liseberg," said Emelie Spelmans, Project Lead at Liseberg. "Hearing the joyful screams from guests today is incredibly rewarding. In many ways, it feels like Stormvåg has always belonged here."
Early riders echoed this sentiment, with ten-year-old Wilma Enander awarding the experience a "10 out of 10", while eleven-year-old Albin Käck Jones described it as a "strong 8", noting that the ride managed to be fun yet "pretty scary" at the same time.
