Germany’s Belantis theme park is set to become the first-ever Astérix park outside of France, marking a major milestone for the iconic comic franchise.
The transformation begins in spring 2026 with the debut of Idefix’ Abenteuerland (Idefix’s Adventure Land), introducing the world of the Gauls for the very first time in Germany.
By 2030/31, Belantis will be fully reimagined as Astérix Park Germany, bringing the beloved Gallic heroes to life through an entirely new themed park experience.

From Belantis to Astérix — What’s Changing
- New ownership and vision: French leisure giant Compagnie des Alpes (CDA) acquired Belantis in April 2025. The group says it is leveraging its experience with the original Parc Astérix near Paris to remake the German theme park.
- Phased rollout: The transformation will be gradual. The first milestone comes in spring 2026 with the opening of a new area called Idefix’ Abenteuerland, dedicated to the dog from the comics. This will be the beginning of the Asterix-themed transformation.
- Full rebirth by 2030/31: Over the coming years, Belantis will be reshaped and rebranded — ultimately becoming Astérix Park Germany under CDA’s plans.
According to Compagnie des Alpes:
“The progressive transformation of Belantis into Astérix Park Deutschland perfectly reflects the Group’s ability to identify and unlock the potential of the sites it acquires…this first Parc Astérix outside France…demonstrates the strength of the Astérix brand and its attractiveness.”
Why This Makes Sense — Location, Market & Potential
Belantis offers a promising foundation for expansion: the site spans around 80 hectares, with roughly 41 hectares reserved for future developments.
Moreover, its proximity to major German cities — Leipzig, Dresden and Berlin — and good motorway access make it a strong choice for a major theme-park destination.
In addition, Germany is seen as the second-largest market for the Astérix comics after France — giving much strategic sense to expanding into a country with high familiarity and fan base for the franchise.
CDA estimates the revamped park could eventually attract 900,000 to 1,000,000 visitors per year, a significant increase over the roughly 300,000 annual visitors Belantis hosted under previous management.
What Guests Can Expect — 2026 and Beyond
- Spring 2026 — Themed area Idefix’ Abenteuerland opens. This first zone will introduce families, especially younger visitors, to the world of Astérix via the loyal dog companion Idéfix (Dogmatix).
- Over the 2026–2031 period — Additional themed lands, attractions, immersive theming and the full rebranding are expected, resulting in a complete Astérix-style park experience near Leipzig.
- For fans of the original park and of Astérix alike, this means a new destination: German-speaking, easy to reach, but offering the charm and character of the Gaulish universe.
